An eye specialist from Sutton Hospital has been nominated for a national award following outstanding patient praise.

Anjali Praveen, a clinical nurse specialist in Sutton Hospital’s dedicated eye unit, is in the running for the Clinical Service of the Year award.

She was nominated by a relative of a patient in the unit, in recognition of her exceptionally good practice in the care of people with macular disease – a condition which affects the central vision and is the most common cause of sight loss in the UK.

Ms Praveen who has worked at the hospital for nine years, said: "I am absolutely delighted to have been nominated for this award.

"Although I wasn’t expecting a nomination, it was a very pleasant surprise."

The winners will be decided by judges who will present them with their awards at the Macular Disease Society's annual conference on September 22.

The whole Sutton Eye Unit provides wonderful care through their A&E and outpatient clinics. They have brought my sight back to normal many times from iritis and scleritis. I hope the NHS Managers currently practicing their dark arts on services at our St. Helier District General Hospital do not muck up this fantastic service too and expect us to reach the wonderful St. George's Hospital (where the patient died of thirst) in a half blind condition.
