Secondary schools in Streatham and West Norwood are opening their doors to give disadvantaged new pupils a head start over the summer.

Dunraven and Bishop Thomas Grant, in Streatham, and the Elmgreen, in West Norwood, will hold two-week summer schools to help pupils move from primary to secondary education.

The first Summer Schools programme, which is funded by the government’s pupil premium, targets children in care, on free school meals or at risk of falling behind.

Councillor Judy Best, Lambeth Lib Dem group children’s social care spokesperson, said: "These Summer Schools can be vital to a child’s success in later life and help give disadvantaged children a flying start at secondary school."
