Firefighters were called this morning to a blaze caused by a toaster.
They were called to a flat in Lavender Hill, Battersea, just before 7am.
Flames from the toaster ignited a cupboard and work surfaces in the kitchen.
Three people living in the flat were able to smother the fire with blankets before fire crews arrived, but two people suffered smoke inhalation as a result.
They were treated by ambulance staff on the scene, but did not need hospital treatment.
A spokesperson for the fire service said: "The fire unusually spread beyond the toaster.
"It set fire to the plastic covering, a cupboard and the work top."
