A 36-year-old man was stabbed to death on the Roundshaw estate in Wallington this morning.

Residents in the Roundsaw estate woke up to police cordons and forensic officers this morning after the man was stabbed near Typhoon Way at 4.05am.

There are at least three crime scenes cordoned off on the Roundshaw Estate.

Police were called to reports of an assault in Typhoon Way at 4.05am. The body of a man, with multiple stab wounds was found in nearby Redford Avenue where he is thought to have collapased and died.

A second man who had no injuries was arrested in Defiant Way on suspicion of murder.

A flat on Typhoon Way has been cordoned off and it is believed that the victim lived there.

There are police tents on Mollison Drive, one on Redford avenue and a cordon across Typhoon way and part of Defiant Way.

There are a series of numbers put in place by the police leading from one crime scene to another.

One neighbour said: "I heard shouting at about 5 in the morning but by the time we got to the window all the police were there."

Another person said: "I've lived round here for years and I had no idea that had happened till I woke up this morning.

"It's so sad- apparently a man has been stabbed - it's awful."

Another person said: "My friend saw a woman on her knees screaming at about 4.30am this morning."

Next of kin are yet to be informed. A post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.

A Metropolitan police spokesman said: "Detectives from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command are investigating a murder in Sutton overnight.

"Officers, London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance attended.

"A 36 year old man was found suffering from multiple stab wounds in nearby Redford Avenue.

"Officers believe he sustained his injuries in Typhoon Way and then made his way to Redford Avenue before collapsing.

"A man was arrested a short time later in nearby Defiant Way on suspicion of murder."
