A special champagne tea was held for couples who got married in the borough in the year of the Queen’s accession to the throne.
The council invited couples celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary to an afternoon at Russettings which houses Sutton’s Register Office on Sunday afternoon, May 27.
John Gilmore, 84, from Carshalton Beeches said: "It was brilliant. The registry office staff and volunteers were absolutely fabulous.
"They made us so welcome and the hospitality was wonderful.
"The mayor made a great speech.
"Linda who made the cakes -Nigella Lawson has got nothing on her."
