A gifted schoolgirl will perform to the Queen at her Diamond Jubilee lunch.

Penny Young will perform to a most prestigious guestlist including the Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall, as well Prince William, The Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry as part of the Children's Orchestra at Westminster Hall on June 5.

The 13-year-old, who is a music scholar at Alleyn's School in Dulwich, will play the violin along with an orchestra of more than 100 young musicians aged between 12 and 14.

Penny, who has played the violin for eight years, attends the Junior department of the Royal College of Music and has been a member of the National Children's Orchestra since she was nine-years-old.

The violinist, from Addiscombe, said she was looking forward to playing for royalty.

She said: "I can't wait to play for the royal family. It will be an honour as is playing for any audience. We know what we are playing but the palace have said we are not allowed to tell anyone.

"I love performing, it's nice having everyone listen to you and you can share with people how much you love playing."

Penny said she was hopeful the orchestra would be given the opportunity to meet the Queen.

She added: "I think we are just performing, but I do hope we get to meet the Queen. I would really like to meet Kate Middleton as well."
