A cash boost has been announced which will see £300,000 given to Merton’s most deprived areas.

The money, for the Merton Partnership, will continue the ‘Bridging the Gap’ policy initiated by the council between 2006 and 2010, which targets resources at the less affluent east of the borough.

Community groups from Mitcham and Morden can apply to Merton Council for grants of up to £10,000.

Councillor David Simpson, Merton Conservatives' spokesman for community engagement and safety, said: “It means voluntary and community groups can apply for Grants of up to £10,000 for their work in Abbey, Colliers Wood, Ravensbury, Lavender Fields, Longthornton, Pollards Hill, St Helier, Graveney, Figges Marsh and Cricket Green wards.

"It’s well recognised that life expectancy is lower in these parts of the borough, and developing better education on healthy living will be a key part of this investment.”
