Police are looking for witnesses to a road traffic collision that killed a pedestrian in Sutton on Saturday.

Emergency Services were called just before 1am on May 19, to Wrythe Lane, Carshalton, near to the junction of Welbeck Road following the collision involving the car, a Black Ford Ka, and the pedestrian.

A 41-year-old man was taken to a south London hospital by London Ambulance Service where he later died.

A 44-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving with excess alcohol.

He has been bailed to return in early July pending further police inquiries.

Detective Constable Nicola Linton, from the Metropolitan Police's Road Death Investigation Unit at Hampton, who leading the investigation is appealing for information about the collision.

She said: "I am appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident to come forward and speak with our team.

"I would urge anyone saw the incident, or the events leading up to it to contact us. Although it was in the early hours of the morning, it's a busy road and I am sure people would have witnessed the collision."

The pedestrian's next of kin has been informed. A post-mortem examination and formal identification will take place in due course.
