A Jack Russell which was trapped underground in a badger sett for six days returned home this morning.
The dog named Buster, entered the sett last week and was stuck underground for about 50 hours, before his worried owner called firefighters to the scene.
Firefighters from Purley and Croydon fire stations spent three hours at the back of a property in Meadway, Shirley, on Friday using a camera and listening devices to try and find him, but had no luck.
As wildlife laws prevent firefighters from digging trapped animals out of badger setts, all Buster's owner could do was sit and wait.
Warwick Reynolds, of the East Surrey Badger Protection Society, said: "I went up there every day but there was no sign of him.
"But this morning he arrived home on his own. He has suffered a couple of little bites but is well and is jumping about."
