A woman is being airlifted to hospital with life changing injuries after being trapped under a tram.
The incident, at Sandilands tram stop, was reported at 9.40am.
About 15 fire fighters fought to free the woman, 28, using specialist equipment before being treated at the scene by ambulance crews.
She is being taken to Royal London Hospital in East London by air ambulance suffering from multiple serious injuries.
A British Transport Police spokeswoman said: “I can confirm that BTP officers were called to Sandilands tram stop in Croydon on Wednesday, 16 May following a report that a woman had fallen underneath a tram.
“The incident was reported to BTP at 9.49am and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.
“The 28-year-old woman from Croydon was taken to the Royal London Hospital where she is currently being treated injuries which are believed to be life-changing.
“The line was handed back to London Tramlink at 10.45am.”
