Cobham plans to mark the diamond jubilee in style.

The town’s recreation ground will be designated as a Queen Elizabeth II playing field.

The green space was the only successful bid in Elmbridge for the status.

To mark the achievement, a party in the park will take place on Sunday, June 3, which will show live the jubilee procession heading down the Thames.

The Cobham Chamber of Commerce is also commissioning a special limited edition commemorative fine bone china mug to celebrate the diamond jubilee.

Numbers will be limited to 3,512 – 1,500 of which will be offered for free and 2,012 of which will be numbered and available for purchase.

The chamber is working with Cobham jewellers Gordon Marks, which was awarded the Royal Warrant in 2009, and Hudson and Middleton, to produce a bespoke design.

The design will recognise the designation of the QEII playing field, making it unique to Cobham.

Details of how to get hold of a mug will be made available soon.
