The Sun faces backlash over Hodgson Headline
1:10pm Wednesday 2nd May 2012 in News By Hannah Williamson
Roy Hodgson was born in Croydon
More than 100 complaints have been made about a newspaper's front page mocking new England manager Roy Hodgson.
The Press Complaints Commission said they would be looking at the complaints after The Sun ran the headline: 'Bwing on the Euwos! (We'll see you in Ukwaine against Fwance)' making fun of Croydon-born Hodgson's speech impediment.
The former Carshalton Athletic and Crystal Palace youth team player was officially unveiled as the new England manager at Wembley yesterday.
However, disgusted fans have taken to Twitter to slam The Sun's actions and are urging others to register a complaint.
One tweeter, Ju Power, wrote: "Roy Hodgson can speak five languages. The Sun can barely write in one."
While Martin Smith said: "People mocking Roy Hodgson's slight lisp are pathetic. Grow up."
Kate Robbins added: "I may not be Roy Hodgson's biggest fan but The Sun's front page headline mocking his speech impediment is disgraceful and not funny."
Many fans were surprised by the choice, with Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp appearing to be the front runner since the departure of Fabio Capello in February.
However, The Sun could face a backlash after their response to the appointment.
What do you think of The Sun's headline? Are you outraged, or do you think it is just a bit of fun?
