Director of rugby Steve Hill reckoned his men drew first blood in the National Division Two South promotion race with a 33-12 win over Lydney on Saturday.

The triumph still gives them a chance of winning the title should they win this weekend at Hartpury College and leaders Old Albanians secure less than a bonus point at Launceston.

But more importantly it secured a promotion play-off spot at the Athletic Ground next week.

And Hill, who saw tries from Chris Davies (2), Tom George, James Greenwood and Barney Pascall grab the bonus point triumph, believed his men were in a good place.

“It was good to get the whole squad on the field as they will all be needed in the most likely scenario of two more games,” he added.

“Our form at home this year has been excellent and I am sure that will be an advantage should we have a match here on May 5.”
