Firefighters were called to put out a fire on the roof of an industrial building.
They were called to the fire in Bolingbroke Grove, Wandsworth, at about 8.30pm, which was on top of a former factory converted into offices.
It was put out by 9pm and nobody was injured.
Firefighters said they received dozens of phone calls from people living nearby.
The cause is being investigated, although fire crews believe it could have been caused by work being carried out on the roof earlier that day.
A spokesperson for the fire service said: "The cause is being investigated. It was a fire on the roof of the building, someone had been laying some felt down."
