A bus company is investigating claims one of its drivers left a woman trapped in her car after a collision.

April Murphy was parking in Sussex Drive when a 412 bus collided with her car at about 8.10am on March 20.

The double decker bus dragged the car a short distance along the road before coming to a halt.

Miss Murphy claimed she was left trapped in her car which was sandwiched between a parked car and the bus.

The bus company, Arriva, has said it has launched an investigation, including reviewing CCTV footage, into the complaint.

The 21-year-old alleged the bus driver refused to move the bus until details were exchanged and then drove off, leaving Miss Murphy shaken and alone.

She said: “She got out of the bus and started taking pictures. “I was crying my eyes out and asking her to let me out of my car.

“She ignored everything I said and demanded my details.

“She threw a pad and pen through the window and when I gave her my details she just drove off.”

Miss Murphy said the driver did not ask if she was ok, and it was only when two pedestrians checked that an ambulance was called.

She was taken to Croydon University Hospital suffering from whiplash and shock.

Miss Murphy added: “For all she [the bus driver] knew I could have had my legs trapped or anything.”

Mike Weston, director of operation for London Buses, said “At around 8:15 a route 412 double deck bus, operated by Arriva, was involved in a minor collision with a car on Sussex Road in South Croydon.

“The driver of the bus followed the standard procedure in these circumstances, stopping her vehicle and exchanging insurance details with the driver of the car. The bus then continued along its route.

“After the bus had departed the driver of the car reported that she was suffering from neck pain.

“At this point the police, London Ambulance Service and an Arriva official attended the scene of the collision. “There will be a full investigation into the collision.”
