A 37-year-old man is to appear in court this morning charged with the murder of man at a YMCA in Croydon.

Daniel Bannister, of no fixed address, will appear in custody at Bromley Magistrates' Court, charged with murdering Rajendra Patel.

Mr Patel was assaulted at the Lansdowne Hostel in Lansdowne Road, on Tuesday, February 21.

The 48-year-old was taken to a south London hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

But Mr Patel returned to hospital on Thursday March 8, where he died the next day. His next of kin have been informed.

A post-mortem examination held at Croydon Mortuary on March 13, gave the cause of death as pulmonary thromboembolism, deep vein thrombosis of the left thermeral vein and a fracture to the left ankle.
