A boy’s hobby is taking him up in the world - by filming lifts.

Angus Mc Dougall has developed a fascination with elevators and has taken to filming different models across London.

And his attention has turned to Croydon, documenting some of the more unique vertical transport systems the borough has to offer.

The 14-year-old said: “Croydon is a good place because it has got a lot of lifts that have character.

JJB Sports has a nice old express lift.

“Some people think it needs modernising but it is the character of the lift that makes it interesting.”

While some might find the obsession strange, Angus explained it was the intricacies behind the metal box that made the subject shine.

He said: “I have been interested in lifts for as long as I can remember.

“They are more than just an everyday routine.

“There are so many engineers and mechanisms involved in making them.”

Angus began filming lifts in May last year and uploading them to his YouTube page.

The teen assumed the practice would be rare but discovered a whole lift aficionado community on the web, with elevating conversations.

Angus said: “It was quite shocking to discover others doing the same.

“I thought I was a unique person but it seems many people who share the same interest.

“I recently filmed a lift which was 150 years old in London.

Angus said at first his friends and family were confused about his hobby but have now come to accept it.

He is now looking to record new lifts and is open to suggestions.

The Reigate Grammar student said: “there are quite a few lifts I would like to go see.

“But the only way for me to film new lifts is to ask people to tell me about lifts I might find interesting.”
