Car abandoned after hitting lamp post in Wallington

A car smashed into a lamp post this morning after apparently skidding on ice.

Firefighters were called to the scene of the crash in Plough Lane, Wallington, at 1am this morning.

A spokesman for Wallington fire station said the vehicle. thought to be a Toyota, was abandoned by the person who was driving it.

He said the events leading up to the crash were not known at this time, but there were icy road conditions which were likely to have contributed to the smash.

Police have been informed of the incident.
