A supermarket streak backfired when CCTV footage helped finger the culprit.

The streaker, who walked into a supermarket with only a scarf around his head and shoes on his feet, has been fined £80.

The 19-year-old man was captured on CCTV on November 8 walking into Tesco in Oldfields Road in Sutton at around 5.15 am.

The young man was filmed by his friends on their mobile phones running around the aisles.

less than a week later, the man returned to the scene of the crime and carryed out similar shenanigans, again with his friend capturing the prank on their mobile phones.

Det Con Adam Biswell, of Sutton CID, said the incidents were a prank with his friends filming it for use on the internet.

However, the culprit had committed a crime by indecently exposing himself but because of his previous good character he received strong words of advice from police and a fixed penalty notice.

“We take a dim view of such pranks. They are a criminal offence, can cause considerable distress to witnesses and use up valuable police time,” said Det Con Biswell.

“CCTV coverage in the borough is so good that if you carry out such behaviour in public places you will be caught.”

Detectives managed to trace the perpetrator, who lives in Carshalton, from the vehicle he got into on leaving the supermarket car park.

He gave himself up at Sutton Police Station on Friday December 30.
