A sensory garden designed to simulate the senses of elderly residents has been officially opened.

Emberbrook Care Home, in Thames Ditton, started raising money for the garden at Christmas last year and raised almost £5,000.

The late Trevor Bannister and former Wimbledon footballer Stewart Castledine are among those who have leant their support to the fundraising campaign.

The garden will stimulate each of the senses when the plants have taken root and provide a an area for residents and relatives to play boules, croquet, chess and mini-golf.

Home manager Jonathan May said: “A special thanks from Emberbrook to one of the relatives Gail Jones who, without her support, encouragement and kind donations we could not have done it.”
