Lambeth Council chief executive volunteers for pay cut

A council chief executive has chosen to take a pay cut and waive a bonus he was due to receive.

Derrick Anderson, chief executive of Lambeth Council, has voluntarily chosen to take a pay cut of 10 per cent to his £213,630 basic pay packet from April.

He has also voluntarily chosen to waive a bonus that was due to him.

A council spokeswoman said: “Senior staff at Lambeth have had their pay frozen for the past three years.

“Lambeth is the second largest authority in London with some of the capital’s most complex needs. Lambeth’s Chief Executive is responsible for managing 8,000 staff, delivering 150 services and a budget of £1 billion.

“Lambeth is open and transparent about what it pays its senior staff and all this information is published on our website. We pay the market rate for officers in senior positions, in keeping with their work load and level of responsibility and consistent with other local authorities”

According to the council, changes to pension and national insurance contributions will see Mr Anderson’s income drop a further 8.6 per cent.
