The body of a teenager found in a pond has been named locally as Alfie Skelton.

The 15-year-old’s body was found just before midday after a huge rescue mission was launched when his dinghy capsized at 4.45pm yesterday.

Divers worked through the night to hunt for the boy in Heathfield Pond in Cobham.

They stopped at 2am and resumed their hunt at 9.30am this morning.

The boy’s 17-year-old friend, who was named locally as Luke Wigmore, was taken to Epsom General Hospital in a stable condition.

Local residents helped police, the ambulance service and Surrey Fire and Rescue Service all searched for Mr Skelton.

A police helicopter, dog teams were also called in to help.
