Detectives investigating a hit-and-run death in Wandsworth are urging the driver and passengers of a car which briefly stopped at the scene to come forward.

Anthony Young, 40, of West Norwood, was hit by a car at around 11.40pm on Friday, October 22, at the junction of Trinity Road and Magdalen Road.

The car failed to stop but the occupants of a dark coloured BMW 1 Series directly behind did stop and offer assistance, before driving away a short time later.

Police and ambulance services were called and Mr Young was taken to St George's Hospital, Tooting - but was pronounced dead at 1.53am the following morning.

The subsequent post-mortem gave his cause of death as a head injury.

The driver of the car that hit and killed Mr Young is still yet to come forward to police.

Prior to the accident, Mr Young, 40, who was driving a gold Nissan Micra, stopped at the junction of Trinity Road and Magdalen Road, and was involved in an altercation with the driver of a blue Ford Fiesta, before he was hit by the car.

The 25-year old male driver of the Ford Fiesta was arrested on suspicion of assault and taken to a south London police station.

He was later bailed to return on November 23 but bail was extended until February 2011.

An incident room has been opened at Sutton under Detective Inspector Justin Davies of the Homicide and Serious Crime Command.

D Insp Davies said: “I am appealing directly to the driver of the vehicle that was in collision with Mr Young, and also the occupants of the BMW, to contact the police.

“It is imperative that we identify all the witnesses to this incident, whether driver or passengers or anyone passing through the area at the time.”

Anyone who with information should call the incident room on 020 8721 4205 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
