Mayor opens Mitcham Status Fair

First published in News

The Mitcham Status Fair opened last week in traditional fashion.

The annual event – run by the Showmen’s Guild of Great Britain since the Queen’s coronation in 1953 – was opened on Thursday by Merton’s new mayor Councillor Oonagh Moulton.

She turned the fair’s famous golden key – blessed by the vicar of St Mark’s Church – at a ceremony attended by three generations from the guild.

The traditional fair runs until Sunday, August 21, on Three Kings Piece, Wimbledon Common.

Regarding the above article, please could you perhaps print a correction? Three Kings Piece is NOT in WIMBLEDON COMMON it is in MITCHAM. The common is called THREE KINGS PIECE IN MITCHAM!!!

Whilst I know people are often singing the praises of Wimbledon, in this case they shouldn't get the praise. This wonderful event is taking place in MITCHAM!! and as such we should word this article correctly to show where it is really held. Thank You.
