A mystery “hero” who protected a mum and daughter from rowdy bus yobs has revealed his identity.
Chris Sims, a mild-mannered call centre worker at GlaxoSmithKline House, in Brentford, stepped out from the shadows after this newspaper launched an appeal to track down one family’s knight in shining armour.
Danielle Lewis heaped praise on Mr Sims for confronting a gang of troublemakers, who had been throwing things at her toddler Leah and swearing and shouting at them on an H91 bus last month.
According to Ms Lewis, the stranger’s chivalry knew no bounds, as he even insisted on walking the shaken pair back to their home.
Ms Lewis, who called the 43-year-old a “true hero”, urged readers to help find her rescuer so he could be publicly acknowledged.
When a surprised Mr Sims was handed a copy of the Hounslow and Brentford Times last week, he simply said: “It’s me.”
He said: “I have three children of my own and I do not like seeing little children cry and get upset. Yes, I was worried about how it could kick off, but my thoughts went out to the mother and her child.
“I always put others first. That is the way my parents brought me up and I am indebted to them for that.
“I do not see myself as a hero or a knight in shining armour, as I hope anyone would do the same.
“I am a proud parent who would not see harm come to my own children, let alone other people’s children.”
