Diners smoked out as fire hits Purley Way McDonald's

Diners enjoying an afternoon hamburger were smoked out of a McDonald's when fire broke out behind one of the fat containers yesterday afternoon.

More than 100 people were left milling outside at the Collonades, Purley Way as neighbouring buildings were evacuated while firefighters tackled the blaze.

Four fire engines from Purley and Croydon stations were called, but one was sent back while the rest dealt with the fire using powder extinguishers and breathing apparatus.

A store spokeswoman refused to comment on the cause of the fire, which broke out at about 4.30pm, but confirmed the store had reopened this morning.

The fire investigation team based at New Cross is investigating the cause of the blaze.

dont mind the odd big mac n fries but does anyone know if they use british beef in their burgers? british beef has become the best and safest beef in the world due to the stringent high standards we now set for the rest of the world to follow
there are certain beef restaurants knocking around that do not use british high quality beef for their customers who are probably not aware they are eating foreign imported beef so its advisable to ask the staff before ordering, or, check first before going out for a meal, by demanding british beef you are helping the british beef industry and also its much more tender and tastier than some of the imported chewy beef.cheers

I would never eat British beef, only Argentine, which is the best in the world. British beef comes from mad cows or may have foot and mouth.

Morning all!!... not sure about McDonalds supplying British beef - their average hungry patrons wouldn't care anyway!!... last week though, I met up with some old friends at Aerodrome Road, Hendon, and we ended up in a lovely popular British run restaurant not too far away... old traditional British menu - and packed to the rafters with decent folk from far and wide... I agree with Bob though - the U.K. farming industry was subjected to the most severe, hygiene precautions in the meat industry after the problems it previously encountered - there was a strict U.K. self-imposed test to win back consumer confidence... every possible check was carried out, it worked and British beef is now back on the dinner plates of most British families... and very popular in Europe as well... quite right too!! I wouldn't touch argentine beef - their standards cannot possibly be as strict as ours are now... plain and simple - look for the Union flag label in the shops - or better still, use a proper traditional butcher and by informing him you will only eat British beef... it becomes useful consumer feed-back for the butcher... big stores also want feedback too - i'm not a big fan of shopping... but when we go, we always say positive things about British produce to other shoppers and store staff - it's a good way of letting the big stores know what we prefere.
