Two Epsom teenagers under curfew after park muggings

Two teenage tearaways who carried out several frightening muggings have been placed under an overnight curfew to stop them from reoffending.

The boys from Epsom, aged 15 and 16, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at South East Surrey Youth Court last month for the offences which occured in a park last summer over a two day period.

The robberies took place in the Meadowbank Recreation Ground, Mill Lane, Dorking, and on each occasion mobile phones were stolen.

The first incident happened on June 29, when a 13-year-old boy had his black Sony Ericsson stolen.

And the young offenders struck again the next day stealing a 15-year-old boy’s mobile phone.

They have each been given a 12-month supervision order under the Intensive Surveillance and Supervision Programme. They will be under a home curfew from 8pm to 7am for the first six months and have 25 hours a week supervision.

Epsom and Ewell Neighbourhood Inspector Ailsa Quinlan said: “Surrey Police is committed to tackling serious crime and we will use a variety of tools available to us in order to punish those responsible for committing offences.

“These were intimidating experiences for the victims and I hope they, and the wider communities, feel reassured now these two young boys are under intensive scrutiny from Surrey Police and also our partner agencies.”
