The final public consultation on plans to develop and improve the town centre and surrounding areas has started.

Plan E, designed to shape the future of Epsom Town Centre up until 2026, may include plans to have a town centre manager, make changes to traffic and roads and to erect new buildings.

At the last Strategy and Resources Committee meeting, councillors approved the Plan E proposed submission document, a draft of policies that set out what will happen, when and where.

Councillor Keith Mann, chairman of the Strategy and Resources Committee, said: “Plan E is an extremely important document which aims to make sure the Town Centre continues to develop and improve. The importance of the town centre is recognised and the vision is to achieve a vibrant, healthy and safe shopping environment with a high quality townscape and attractive and accessible environment, while keeping a very clear view on how this should happen.”

The public has had opportunities to comment on the proposals contained within Plan E over the past two years and will be able to view the final document before it is formally submitted to the Secretary of State for examination. It is likely that a public hearing will be held later this year.

The cost of the plan has not been defined yet.

A council spokeswoman said: “Plan E is a 20-year-plan that starts to identify where we wish to move towards so detailed costings have not been undertaken for most of the elements. This is just part of the process and Plan E links in with other agencies and local business planning.

“It is considered that future funding will need to be identified not just through the council, but also with our partners.”

The public will have the chance to view and comment on the Plan E document at the town hall or local libraries over the next six weeks, until Monday, March 15.
