Banstead Athletic 3 Chertsey Town 1

For the first 10 minutes or so, Banstead were trying to find their feet against a side fourth in the league, writes Bob Lockyer.

It didn't help when Sol Patterson Bohner was booked after 10 minutes for not retreating the distance after a free-kick was given.

Chertsey had a shot from Steve Goddard that Brady in the Banstead goal just tipped over.

As the temperature was dropping and the pitch was becoming harder, Banstead started to play football.

On 29 minutes, Alistair John was shown a red card for lashing out at Steve McNamara the Chertsey player he also was shown a red card.

It seemed to help Banstead going down to 10 men because, on 35 minutes, Adam Moriarty scored from 35 yards out with a sweet shot that was fumbled by the keeper in the Chertsey goal.

On 45 minutes, Banstead's Zak Graham had the ball in the net after some good work between Quintin and Patterson Bohner.

Just before half-time, Dave Tarpy of Chertsey just missed with a shot.

Banstead made a substitution before the second half began, with Shane Sinclair on in place of Sammut.

On 57 minutes, he had the ball in the net with the outside of his boot from a fair distance out.

Chertsey pulled one back on 63 minutes when Banstead were caught out Dave Tarpey crossed for Andy Crossley to slot into the net.

Banstead made another sub with Patterson Bohner coming off and Leon Wallace coming on, Banstead had the upper hand and made sure of the three points with a controlled finish to the game.

Banstead's manager Paul Norris said afterwards: "I made a few changes tonight to freshen things up after Saturday's poor performance.

"I need players ready to play whenever I call on them to do so.

"The formation tonight was 4-2-3-1, which I felt was a good call.

"Zak Graham & Sol Patterson-Bohner caused problems all night, their hard work and determination and quality in the final third paid off.

"No one would have given us a chance after Saturday's game to get three points from Chertsey.

"Prendergast and Zak Graham were superb on Saturday, tonight Zak and Ross Chalke led the line."
