Two teenagers from Mitcham and Croydon have denied being part of a gang attack in New Malden, in which their alleged victim was kicked and beaten “within an inch of his life”.

A 16-year-old boy from Mitcham, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded not guilty at the Old Bailey this morning to attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm and robbery.

Alex Fenton, 18, from Croydon, pleaded not guilty to attempted robbery.

In his opening remarks, prosecutor Mr Thompson told the jury in detail how a street gang called “MG4646” –short for “Murder Gang 4646” – went to Blagdon Park, New Malden, on April 8 to steal mobile phones and speakers from a group of younger teenagers.

The incident quickly turned nasty, with several members of the younger group punched and threatened with further violence, including a 15-year-old girl who was punched in the face because she did not give her attackers cigarettes, the court was told.

The gang surrounded one 15-year-old boy, a Wimbledon College student, who was repeatedly stamped on and kicked by the group, it was alleged.

Mr Thompson claimed the 16-year-old defendant told a friend on the phone: “I think I’ve just killed someone.”

The defence has yet to speak at the trial. The case continues.
