Abandoned pooch is top dog at Scruffts

A former rescue dog has scooped a top prize at the alternative dog show - Scruffts.

Despite being abandoned at Battersea Dog’s Home as a puppy and having a withered leg, Snert won over the judges to become top dog in the Golden Oldie category.

The 16-year-old cross-bread was adopted from the home by Tricia Ford of St Margarets Road, St Margarets, when he was less than a year old.

Miss Ford compared Snert’s success to winning an Oscar and said it was well deserved.

She said: “Everybody loves him and he’s a great companion.

“He really enjoyed himself and he’s become a bit of a diva now.”

Snert, named after a dog in the cartoon Hägar the Horrible, was presented with his prize by animal lover and former Blue Peter Presenter Peter Purves at the award show on November 14.
