Lillian Case, who is believed to be Wandsworth’s oldest resident, reached the mature age of 106 on Tuesday - and celebrated the big day with former GMTV presenter Fiona Phillips.

Lillian, who loves nothing more than a discussion about politics and beating her contemporaries in quizzes, was at the Leonard Cheshire of Gwyneth Morgan Day Centre in East Hill on Tuesday when the celebrity popped-in and surprised her.

Support worker Jean Elgar said Lillian, from Battersea, had a great day. “Lillian said it was one of the best days of her life,” Jean said.

“Fiona Phillips was so down to earth and we had the deputy mayor and policeman here to wish her well also.”

Jean said Lillian, who used to be a housekeeper, liked to discuss politics.

She added: “When we play the weekly quiz she is always the first to answer and never gets it wrong.”
