JD Sports makes amends for Kingston Remembrance Day service disruption

JD Sports has offered to make a £500 donation to the poppy appeal following the disruption its store caused to Kingston’s Remembrance Sunday service last week.

The store had opened its doors at 11am as usual on Sunday, November 8, blasting out music as veterans, dignitaries and other attendees observed the traditional two minute silence outside.

JD Sports chief executive Barry Brown ordered staff to make the donation after an email from Kingston resident Marguerite Bowers-Clark, who led a delegation of protesters after the service.

The company said: “The donation is being made to an excellent cause in remembrance and acknowledgement of the efforts and sacrifices of our forces in the past and currently.”
