Doctor jailed for spiking Tulse Hill lover's drink in abortion bid

A doctor who poisoned his Tulse Hill lover in a bid to make her miscarry their baby has been jailed for six years.

Married Edward Erin, 44, a hospital consultant, twice tried to give spiked drinks to his secretary Bella Prowse, of Bristowe Close, in a bid to procure a miscarriage.

He slipped prescription drugs into her coffee and orange juice on February 7 and 8 last year, knowing the drugs had a high chance of causing miscarriages.

The dad of two got Miss Prowse, 33, pregnant during a month long extra marital affair with the then mum-of-one.

Their romance had started at the Christmas party of the St Mary's Hospital department where they both worked.

Erin had begged her to have an abortion and resolved to poison her after she refused, the court was told.

Miss Prowse suspected she had been poisoned when she found yellow powdery substances in the drinks, and took them to Streatham Police station for analysis.

Erin was found guilty on October 19 of two counts of attempting to administer poison with intent to procure a miscarriage. He was sentenced on Monday at the Old Bailey.

Miss Prowse gave birth to a healthy baby boy, Ernie, despite Erin's efforts, but the mum-of-two has said she fears the drugs may have done damage which has not yet been discovered.
