Croydon FC chairman Dickson Gill insists he is happy youth product Stefan Payne is about to join Premier League side Fulham for what could be a six-figure sum, despite releasing him for nothing two months ago.
The 18-year-old attracted Fulham's interest after scoring six times for Sutton United already this season, but Trams chairman Dickson Gill was not upset about missing out on the money.
"We will get nothing but I am not a bitter person," he said.
"It would have been nice if we got something but we never had the money so we won't miss it.
"The important thing is the lad has got a chance to play at a Premier League club and that's any boys dream."
"He started as a junior with us and came through to play for the U18s.
"I promoted him and gave him and contract and some games with the first team at the start of last season but then we got new managers in and they wouldn't play him.
"I didn't blame him for moving away."
