A man who died of injuries he sustained in a road accident in Upper Norwood earlier this month was a former Lambeth mayor.

Harold Lockwood, a Labour mayor in 1967/68 -was struck by a car on the street where he lived, Gibson’s Hill, on August 3.

Police were called at 10.57 after a red Vauxhall Corsa was in collision with the 89-year-old.

He was rushed to Kings College hospital suffering from hip and head injuries, but he died of his injuries on August 18.

The driver stopped at the scene of the incident.

Police are calling for anyone who may have seen the collison to come forward.

Sergeant Paul Sanders said: "The collision happened in a busy area during the mid morning.

"If anyone remembers the collision I would urge them to call police so that we can piece together the events that led up to his tragic death."
