Cricket legend Imran Khan and prospective MP Zac Goldsmith grilled at Kingston Mosque

Former cricketer and Pakistani politician Imran Khan joined his former brother-in-law Zac Goldsmith, the prospective parliamentary candidate for North Kingston and Richmond, at Kingston Mosque on Monday evening.

About 50 people took part in a question and answer session grilling both politicians primarily about world affairs, including Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Imran Khan was married to Jemima Goldsmith, Mr Goldsmith’s sister.

Mr Goldsmith said: "It was interesting to go to a mosque and meet the mosque goers.

"Imran was the star and I took a back seat.

"They were an educated bunch who had some pretty clear views about issues. It was fascinating."

Rashid Laher, chairman of the management committee of the mosque, said: "I wish people had seen the faces of the boys and girls in the madrassa.

"It was a fantastic visit because people were engaged, were interested by his knowledge of politics.

"Zac is quite young and they were impressed with his grasp of politics."

He said some were reluctant to take part in a political event in the mosque premises.

Susan Kramer, the incumbent MP, has also visited the mosque several times.
