Husband will not face charges over Brentford model's death fall

The husband of the Brentford beauty who fell to her death from a 12th floor balcony will not face prosecution.

Sahar Daftary, died just days before Christmas, after falling 150ft from the balcony of Rashid Jamal’s balcony in Salford Quays, Manchester.

The 35-year-old businessman was arrested following Miss Daftary’s death and had been bailed to return for further questioning by police today, but the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said he would not be charged.

A CPS spokesman said: "The code for Crown prosecutors - the guidance that CPS lawyers follow - requires that, for a case to go ahead, there must be a realistic prospect of conviction and that it must be in the public interest to prosecute.

"Having considered all the evidence available, the reviewing lawyer in this case felt that there was a significant lack of evidence to support any prosecution.

"Our thoughts and sympathies remain with Sahar's family and loved ones."

Miss Daftary, who was crowned the Face of Asia last year, had gone to collect her belongings from Mr Jamal’s flat, whom she had married in a Muslim ceremony at the Holiday Inn in Brentford in December 2007.

However, just months after the wedding she discovered Mr Jamal was already married and was living with his wife and two children in Manchester.

Although initial investigations by police suggested Miss Daftary's death was an accident or suicide her widowed mother, who lives in Trimmer Walk, Brentford, and her sister, Mariya Massumi, 34, who works part- time in a hairdressers in St John’s Road, Isleworth, believed her death to be suspicious.

The family’s solicitor Brian Koffman said: “The family are disappointed with the decision. They will be reviewing their situation.”
