A Tudor music festival to mark the 500th anniversary of Henry VIII’s accession to the throne is being held at Hampton Court Palace in May.
The concerts will form part of a host of celebrations and will run from May 7 to 10.
The concerts will take place in the magnificent Great Hall, which was the centre of Henry’s banquets, entertainments, theatre and dancing.
They will be held from May 7 to 10 and the doors open at 6.30pm for pre-concert refreshments in the tudor kitchens.
The choir of the palace’s Royal Chapel will start the concert on May 7 and Kingston University students will present poetry readings and entertainment from the 17th century.
On Friday, May 8, the Brabant Ensemble, directed by Dr Stephen Rice, will perform a host of secular music from tudor composers.
Leading lute players Elizabeth Kenny and Robin Blaze will take to the stage on the Saturday and the acclaimed King’s Singers will perform for the finale on Sunday.
Doors open at 6.30pm for pre-concert refreshments in the Tudor kitchens.
