The search is on to find the owner of a Beckham-style engagement ring which was left in Marco-Pierre White’s Putney restaurant three weeks ago.

The white gold band - which is encrusted with diamonds - was found in Frankie’s Bar and Grill in Putney Bridge Road on Friday, January 20, and no one has been back to claim it since.

Manager Diego Vargas, who found the ring, said: “I was closing up at around 1am. I turned the lights up in the ladies’ toliets and there it was on the floor.”

But there is a further twist to the tale: Mr Vargas thinks he knows who it belongs to.

“A couple came into the restaurant late that night, and after going to the toliet the woman realised she had lost her ring.

"She took it off to wash her hands but it must have rolled on to the floor, and as the restaurant is quite dark, my staff could not see it when they went to check.

“The woman was very distressed and they went soon after. But they didn’t leave a number, so we have been unable to contact them since.

“We think they live locally and would recognise them if they came in. We are just desperate for them to get in touch so we can return it," he added.

The Wandsworth Guardian asked Earslfield jeweller David Simmons to look at a picture of the ring to see how much he thought it was worth.

“It looks very similar to the design the Beckham’s chose for their wedding bands.

"I would guess it was white gold and assuming it is 18 carats and diamonds, it would cost approximately £1,000 to buy. It could be worth more, but it’s hard to say without seeing it up close," he said.
