Stoneleigh Athletic U13B extended their unbeaten run in the league this week following a 4–3 thriller at home against AFC Ewell in the Epsom District Youth League, writes Mick Helps.

Stoneleigh are unbeaten in both league and cup competition since November but came up against an AFC side determined to break that sequence.

Stoneleigh took the lead early in the first half with two goals from Kye Stephenson however from then on it was Ewell who looked the stronger and maintain the most consistent pressure with Stoneleigh defense of William Helps, Bradley Livesey, Chris Kyte and Harrison Hunt constantly called into action.

Despite an assured performance by Greg Marlow in the Stoneleigh goal Ewell pulled a goal back just before half time.

The second half saw AFC Ewell once again seize the initiative and man of the match Matt Skelly marshaled the defense well from his sweeper position to restrict the AFC onslaught to one goal.

The battle for midfield dominance continued with William Frazer and Miles Egan working hard to release Demitri Bell to score.

AFC Ewell’s once again showed their determination to break through a crowded penalty area to scorer another equalizer.

With both teams feeling they could win the match Stoneleigh were awarded a penalty with only injury time left on the referees watch and it was left to Kye Stephenson to seal the match 4-3 in Stoneleigh’s favor and also claim his first hat trick.

Afterwards Manager Paul Hoskins said “I was pleased the boys were able to extend their unbeaten run but we made in tougher than we needed to today.

"That is no small credit to AFC Ewell who kept battling back into this match."
