Another funding row has thrown the possibility of connecting Clapham Junction Station to the Tube network into doubt.
The Mayor of London and the Department for Transport (DfT) had agreed to split the final £30m cost for phase two of the East London Line extension - linking Clapham Junction to Docklands.
But now the DfT has asked the mayor to stump up the cash for a new station on the line in Lewisham.
A spokeswoman for the Mayor said: “We have offered to split the cost of the £30 million funding gap. However it is only within the last couple of weeks the DfT has now asked if we will meet the additional cost of a new station at Surrey Canal Road.
"Discussions will continue to take place with the Government and we are hopeful they will work with us to achieve what we see as a logical, sensible and cost effective improvement to the capital’s transport network.”
