Reports armed police storm Clapham Junction train

A man was forcibly removed from a train carriage by armed police after it pulled into Clapham Junction station this morning, according to an eyewitness report.

The man, who was said to be Asian, was dragged from the carriage by several armed officers as soon as it had pulled into the station.

But a Met Police spokeswoman denied the report, saying police had been called to reports of a weapon seen on the train about 8.15am.

She said no one was arrested and police had simply spoken to commuters.

The eyewitness said the incident was over in a few minutes and it was unclear why police had targeted the man shortly after 9am.

He said passengers were left confused and alarmed by the man’s removal as the train was held at the station platform for some time afterwards.

Police said the man was seen brandishing a weapon on a train.

A spokeswomman for the Metropolitan Police said police had received reports of a man with a gun on a London-bound overland train.

She said firearms officers had gone to the station and searched the train.

No one was arrested, no weapons were found and police spoke to the communters but none were taken off the train, she said.
