The sky’s the limit for a graduate who launched his own airship business from a room in West Norwood this week.

Nicholas Rogers, 23, recently bought a 4m airship from Germany and hopes to fly it around the UK’s most iconic buildings.

Companies can hire the airship for indoors sports events, concerts or exhibitions and have their name flown above thousands of people.

He said: “Since I was a young child I have been passionate about airships and all kinds of aviation.

“When I was seven years old I saw an airship fly over my school. It was love at first sight.

“They’re in my blood and I couldn’t change that even if I wanted to.”

Mr Rogers is marketing the remote controlled airship from his house in St Julian’s Farm Road, which he shares with his partner and friends.

In 2007 he graduated with a degree in business management from Royal Holloway and joined the Transport for London, but one year later plucked up the courage to go it alone.

After months of planning Rogers Airship Company is now seeking to secure contracts with events management companies.

He said: “I tried to find work with airships but because it is so specific it’s difficult to find opportunities. So I created my own opportunities.

“Indoor airship advertising is more than a little bit different. It’s extremely quirky, and that’s the main selling point.

“Competition for business and consumer spending is going to get fierce as the credit crunch bites, and it’s the companies who embrace imaginative solutions – like our airships – who will ultimately win out.”
