John Claydon arrested in Twickenham

Police searching for a murder suspect who escaped from a Wandsworth mental unit have arrested him in Twickenham.

John Claydon, was arrested by Met Police on Hampton Road this evening and taken to a south London police station.

The 28-year-old escaped from Springfield Hospital, where he was undergoing a psychiatric assessment in its mental unit, along with another suspect John Slavin on Tuesday evening.

Claydon is awaiting trial for the murder of Ben Foster in Bath in April.

Police say Slavin, who is described as 6ft 3in of thin build with a goatee beard, is still at large.

He was wearing a black jumper, black coat, blue jeans and a black beanie hat when he escaped.

He is known to have links to the Kensington and Chelsea and Aberdeen areas.

Slavin is on remand to Southwark Crown Court charged with aggravated burglary.

Members of the public are advised not to approach Slavin but to dial 999 immediately.
