A high speed car chase took place through the streets of Elmbridge in broad daylight on Saturday and police are appealing for witnesses.

The pursuit began at 1.05pm when a silver BMW M3, travelling down Queens Road, Weybridge, ignored a police patrol unit’s requests to pull over.

The car sped off on the Portsmouth Road in Cobham and then drove towards Esher.

A 23-year-old male and 20-year-old male from Walton were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle but were later released without charge.

Police believe another man was in the car but escaped before police got there.

“Police are keen to speak to this male in relation with this incident,” said a Surrey Police spokesman.

“Despite an extensive search of the surrounding area by a number of units at the time, the male has yet to be located.”

The suspect is described as a white man, of medium height and build, with brown hair. He is aged between 25-30 years old and was wearing blue jeans and a checked shirt.

Witnesses can call Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
