Footballer John Terry could be the next Mayor of Surrey, but at 1000/1 the odds are not looking good.
If you’re a die-hard Arsenal supporter, perhaps another celebrity from our list of potential mayors will take your fancy.
“I cannot see any of the celebs going for the role with the exception of Aspel as he is a well meaning individual who would not mind doing his civic duty.
Rupert Adams
Elmbridge residents Kelvin MacKenzie, Mick Hucknall, Chris Tarrant, Theo Paphitis and even Bobby Davro all made it on to our prestigious, money-can’t buy list.
Surrey County Council are currently gathering views from the public on whether there should be a Mayor of Surrey, with a decision due on December 9.
But before you surrender your right to vote in despair, take comfort in the words of Rupert Adams, public relations executive at William Hill.
He said: “I cannot see any of the celebs going for the role with the exception of Aspel as he is a well meaning individual who would not mind doing his civic duty.
“Mick is too busy trying to pull the birds, Max is still very busy, Kelvin is anti-jewellery, Theo is also busy, Chris Tarrant will be fishing and it takes John Terry two days to make what a Mayor does in 365.”
Coral bookies have put their faith in Kelvin MacKenzie, who is a dab hand at political campaigns running for council earlier this year.
“Having had the dubious pleasure of meeting Mr MacKenzie I can testify to his powers of persuasion, and the power of The Sun can be quite influential, even in leafy Elmbridge,” said Coral’s PR manager David Stevens.
“As for the outsiders, the thought of Mick Hucknall singing to voters in order to gain votes would surely count him out.”
Michael Aspel
Aspel however counted himself out of the running saying he might be too old for the role.
“I like the idea of the chain mail but I’d be the McCain of the candidates, a bit past the sell by date,” said Michael Aspel.
“When I was a small boy there was a programme called Toytown and my favourite character was the Mayor of Toytown. Mayor of Toytown would be great, I’d love that.
“I think the Mayor needs to be someone like Max Clifford because he is are full of energy. Kelvin is tireless as well, which he’d need to be as it’s a very hard job.”
Chris Tarrant
“It’s all a bit premature because nobody’s actually spoken to me about it, but of course I’d be very proud to be asked,” said Chris Tarrant.
“I would have all the new army of traffic wardens who have suddenly swarmed in to Esher High Street sent back to wherever they came from “I’d also make it obligatory for all councillors and civic dignitaries to be fishermen and The Albert pub should officially be instated as the mayor’s parlour.”
Max Clifford
Max Clifford said: “I think if I was ever going to be Mayor the Mayor of Surrey would be wonderful because I love Surrey and I get a huge amount of pleasure from living here. But it would take up the 10 minutes free time I have in a week.
“If I was mayor I would get more community support in to life as it’s one of the things that is lacking. I would try and get as many social events going as possible, to get people talking again.”
Kelvin MacKenzie
Kelvin MacKenzie said: "I'd love to be mayor. I would seriously up for it. I've got other interests but if you want something done, ask a busy man.
"I'd stop the Government taking the hard-earned money from the people of Surrey and sending it up to obscure places in the country.
"There is a lot of wealth in Surrey and it's being used to prop up the rest of the country.
"I'd probably shut down the local council as well, they don't do any good and, I don't know about you, but I've got enough wheelie bins now. I don't want anymore."
