A free debt counselling centre is opening up in a Tulse Hill church.
To counter the growing effect of the credit crunch, charity Christians Against Poverty is opening the centre in Holy Trinity and St Matthias church in Trinity Rise on Sunday, October 19.
The centre promises to negotiate with creditors to work out a realistic budget people in debt and will help them prioritise their food and essential bills to ensure they will be debt free within four years.
Irene Rothwell who will manage the new centre said: “Debt is an increasing problem in our society but individuals can receive the help and support they need through the charity’s work.
“The worst thing someone in debt can do is stay silent, so I would urge anyone in financial difficulty in the area to contact me.
“Being in debt is nothing to be ashamed of and I know we can work together to provide a lasting solution.”
