A man in his 20s has been stabbed in Clapham in the early hours of this morning.

Police officers were called to Beaufoy Road the junction of Lavender Hill and Queenstown Road at 4.45am.

The man was taken to a south London hospital by the London Ambulance Service where his condition is described as stable.

A local resident, who did not want to be named, said the man was stabbed in the entrance to a communal car park for Point Zero Appartments in Queenstown Road before staggering across the road.

He said: “There is a lot of trouble around here. The police have the power to break up groups of three and take anyone under 16 home but it doesn’t work. The kids just run away.”

Blood was still visible outside the Sainsbury’s Local store on Queenstown Road this afternoon.

Another shop owner from Queenstown Road, said: “It gets quite bad in the evenings. We’ve luckily been ok here but there are big groups of kids trying to cause trouble most nights.

“The first I heard was when I tried to open up this morning and all the roads were closed. It’s horrible to think someone has been hurt.”

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said no arrests have been made.

Queenstown Road, Lavender Hill, Cedars Road and Wandsworth Road were all closed to traffic for most of the morning while police continue their investigations but all roads have now re-opened.
