Epsom man fined for harassing Wandsworth ex-girlfriend

An Epsom man has been fined for harassing his ex-girlfriend and causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage to her car.

Scott Cunningham, of Fir Tree Road, appeared at South Western Magistrates’ Court on Friday to hear charges of harassment, criminal damage and driving without insurance.

The court heard how Cunningham had broken up with Emma Middleton, a Wandsworth resident and his girlfriend of eight years, in September last year after he had an affair with one of her friends.

Over the next few months, Cunningham unsuccessfully attempted to “get back” with Miss Middleton and repeatedly called her and sent texts.

The 25-year-old also attempted suicide on two separate occasions.

In April this year, Miss Middleton, found that several swear words had been scratched onto the front door at her home, the initials “SAC” had been carved onto her car door.

Cunningham at first denied this but later admitted that he did it and offered to pay for the damage to be repaired.

The defendant was charged with driving without insurance because he used another friend’s car to drive to Ms Middleton’s flat.

Cunningham was fined £600 compensation for the criminal damage caused to Ms Middleton’s car, a further £200 for driving without insurance, a £15 victim surcharge and was given six points on his driving licence In addition to the fines, he was given a community order which will see him complete 160 hours of unpaid work over the next 12 months.
